Whyte JW 2

Remember this amazing bit of kit with front suspension that didn't use forks?

We have one of these for sale that has barely been used. The previous owner used it around the city, so you can be the first to take it off road and try something very different that works so well.

What style?

There are many options to consider when buying a bike, but the first one is what style do you buy.

There are three main styles of bikes.

Mountain - Designed for playing around in the hills and mud, geared for climbing and fast downhill with knobbly tyres for grip. These come in two common types Hard tail (rigid frame with suspension forks) and full suspension (suspension on the rear aswell as suspension forks)

Road - Designed for maximum speed on the road, geared for maximum speed and with drop handlebars to put you in the most efficient position. Slick narrow tyres designed for the road help the speed too.

Hybrid - Designed for everyday riding/commuting or gentle weekend rides from the roads to Canal paths and the trails. This are optimised for comfort and feature adjustable stems and a very relaxed upright position. These will have multi use tyres that offer a central slick pattern for the road, and grip on the outside for when you are on trails and paths.

These come in two main types sports (rigid forks and flatter handlebars for commuting or faster riding) and traditional (often with suspension forks and suspension seatpost to offer the most comfort and ease of riding).

Manufacturers often use different terms for their hybrid bikes categorising them further into Urban, City, Sports, Path, Trail, Town and Country, Lifestyle and many more. This makes your job of choosing even harder.

Anything that isn't a Mountain bike or a road bike is technically a hybrid, regardless of what category it is then put into. Don't be too confused by all the different styles, look for one that does the job you want it to do, or please ask us to guide you through the models and get out in the sun (hopefully) and ride it.

New Shop

As anyone who has called in recently will have noticed, we have had a bit of a change here in the shop. We recently unveiled our new showroom, which has all the goodies on show. We now have a huge warehouse, which allows us to keep much higher stocks of bikes and spares in. Come and see the changes, but remember the door is over to the right of where it was!!!
