Cycle to work schemes

We are currently involved with two cycle to work schemes and can happily supply you bikes through your employer at a great saving

If you haven't heard of these schemes yet, it is a government initiative to get people riding to work and you can save up to 40% off the purchase of a bike and accessories. Many companies are involved and if your employer isn't, then why not get them involved.

2011/2010 Prices

If you are anything like me, you hate not having price lists, and trawling round for them, or worse setting your heart on something only to find its out of your price range. Well, that's about to change, I've added some to our site to help you make your choices, but please remember these are recommended retail prices only, so can change at any time.

Buying your bike

When you buy a bike from us we fully service the bike before it leaves us, to ensure it is safe to ride. We offer a first service within four weeks to reset the bike after its first few miles. We don't sell bikes in boxes or expect you  to do any assembly.

Being Green

We care for our environment as we get out and about in the mountains and on the roads whenever we can, so we do our bit to keep waste down. We generally use paper bags for new items, we recycle our cardboard locally and we reuse packaging as much as possible.

Manuals

Need to find information on your bike, then follow these links to the manufacturers site to download your original manual.

Children's bikes

We have plenty of bikes for little ones in store and ready to take away. Everything from 12" for a 3 years to 24" for 9 years and full size bikes for older children.

65 years

On October 27th this year we celebrated 65 years of official incorporation as a business. We were trading before this, but we use this as our official start date. We are still family owned and run, and are very proud to have second and third generations working together!

Electric bikes

Fancy some assistance with your riding, then how about a pedal assist electric bike. This example from Powabyke is the new generation with smaller and lighter batteries. It looks and performs like a bicycle, and isn't too heavy to carry. Available in 6 speed, 24 speed and ladies step through frame options.

Check out Powabyke's website

Model availability

We keep a range from the manufacturer we sell in store, but if we don't have the size/model combination that you require then we can normally get the bike the next day for you, call us for availability

Second hand bikes

We have a selection of second hand bikes in store from basic to get you around town to some nicer ones, why not call in for more information or to have a look.

These are constantly changing, call for further information.

What style?

There are many options to consider when buying a bike, but the first one is what style do you buy.

There are three main styles of bikes.

Mountain - Designed for playing around in the hills and mud, geared for climbing and fast downhill with knobbly tyres for grip. These come in two common types Hard tail (rigid frame with suspension forks) and full suspension (suspension on the rear as well as suspension forks)

Road - Designed for maximum speed on the road, geared for maximum speed and with drop handlebars to put you in the most efficient position. Slick narrow tyres designed for the road help the speed too.

Hybrid - Designed for everyday riding/commuting or gentle weekend rides from the roads to Canal paths and the trails. This are optimised for comfort and feature adjustable stems and a very relaxed upright position. These will have multi use tyres that offer a central slick pattern for the road, and grip on the outside for when you are on trails and paths.

These come in two main types sports (rigid forks and flatter handlebars for commuting or faster riding) and traditional (often with suspension forks and suspension seat post to offer the most comfort and ease of riding).

Manufacturers often use different terms for their hybrid bikes categorising them further into Urban, City, Sports, Path, Trail, Town and Country, Lifestyle and many more. This makes your job of choosing even harder.

Anything that isn't a Mountain bike or a road bike is technically a hybrid, regardless of what category it is then put into. Don't be too confused by all the different styles, look for one that does the job you want it to do, or please ask us to guide you through the models and get out in the sun (hopefully) and ride it.

New Shop

As anyone who has called in recently will have noticed, we have had a bit of a change here in the shop. We recently unveiled our new showroom, which has all the goodies on show. We now have a huge warehouse, which allows us to keep much higher stocks of bikes and spares in. Come and see the changes, but remember the door is over to the right of where it was!!!
